Random Update on Life

Back on Friday, December 3rd Deanna was gone for the night leaving me alone with our baby girl all night.  Another first for me, and a bigger first for Deanna being away from her baby for the night.  I definitely had the easier end of the deal.  I think all three of us ended up having fun nights despite not all being together.

The following Sunday we went to a wedding for one of Deanna’s good friends from high school.  The reception that followed was the fanciest I’d ever been to.  It was held at Chateau Élan and included an open bar, fancy hors d'oeuvres, an open bar, a very good main course, and an open bar.  Did I mention the open bar?  The bride and groom are both graduates of North Georgia College and currently in the Army and are now headed off to North Pole, Alaska!  Good luck Sara & Phillip!

Other than that life’s just been whizzing by to fast to recall enough to write about.  Talk to you later internet!

Video Game Updates:

Finished Saints Row 2!, still making progress on Forza Motorsport 3, started Borderlands.

Also, I’m very excited that the Elder Scrolls 5 and Forza Motorsport 4 were announced to be released in the fall of 2011.

Pictures, Daddy Daycare, and Forza Motorsport

I can say I’m about pictured out.  We’ve had studio pictures, outdoor pictures, Santa pictures, and of course our own amateur candid pictures taken just this month alone.  My face wasn’t meant to be in print that many times in a month.  I have to say the final product is worth it though; having this many photos of our little baby is a blessing that will last a lifetime.  (as long as both our computers, the backup HD, and Shutter Fly don’t die simultaneously)

I got a little bit of a vacation this Thanksgiving week.  I took off the entire week and was solely responsible for taking care of my baby girl Monday and Tuesday.  I think daddy daycare went pretty well, even if mom was jealous that I got to stay home while she worked.  Baby and I even ventured out into the world to do some grocery shopping Tuesday.  When we first got there she was throwing a fit and I’ll admit I was worried it wouldn’t stop.  Fortunately she went to sleep soon after entering the store thanks to the wobbly, vibrating Wal-Mart buggy I picked out.  The two days ended up going very well and I was a little sad to see them go.

Of course daddy daycare involved some gaming time (during the baby’s naps, at least that’s what we tell mommy).  That gave me some time to get back to Forza Motorsport 3 which I haven’t played in quite some time.  I have a renewed interest in actually finishing the VERY long single player series of races.  Best of all the game is entirely baby friendly.  I thought maybe all that driving might put her to sleep but that doesn’t seem to work.  I am still working on Saints Row 2 as well but as I stated in the previous entry it’s for after baby’s asleep only making progress slow.

I have to say it’s been a wonderful Thanksgiving week.  Lots of good food, family, and my baby girl.  I really am thankful for everything that has been provided for me.  All things must come to an end though… off to work tomorrow.  But I’m thankful for that too… just not quite so excited for it.

Here are a few of my favorite photos of us taken by Gavin Sexton last week.

Gaming with a Baby

Babies like TV.  They like it a lot.  In learning to care for a baby and everything that goes along with that this was probably my biggest surprise.  So, when wanting to play video games this poses an opportunity and a problem.  The opportunity is that she likes the TV so much she’ll watch me play games for considerable amounts of time.  I don’t want to mention the actual amount of time to avoid a knock on the door from Defax.  The problem is I can’t play whatever I want.  Right now she is only 4.5 months old and changes so much everyday which means that her little brain is an ever dry sponge pulling in everything she sees and hears.  This means I can’t or am not willing to play my typical games which involve guns, cursing, and blood.  The only safe games I have are racing games (Forza 3) and the music games (Rock Band, Guitar Hero).  The latter of which has been getting a lot of play time lately. Currently I’m trying to play the crap out of Saints Row 2 but I’m limited to time when the baby is sleeping which means after 8pm and maybe for an hour here and there during the day on the weekends.  Of course I have to share the TV with my wife as well.  Apparently watching me play video games is boring, I would have never guessed that.  I say watching Dancing with the Stars is boring, different strokes I suppose.  So the progress has been slower than I like but the game is awesome so I’m sticking with it.  I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to pick it up.  Luckily my patience meant it only cost me $20.  What a steal!

I leave you with a few pictures of my precious baby girl.  Also included, nana (top), mom (middle).

The First Blog

This is my first blog….  ever.  I can’t say I’m sure what the point of this is but I guess it could be cool to preserve these little moments in time for all time, or at least until the end of the internet.

I’ll admit the subject matter of this blog, assuming I stick with it, will be kind of random.  Life as a new father who happens to enjoy video games above most other forms of entertainment.  So expect to read about my kid, my wife, video games, and whatever else I care enough about to include.

That’s it for the intro, stay tuned for what is likely to be awesome… or not.
